If you think the big awards show parties are a blast, check out the monthly Digital Wednesdays hosted by the Malaysian Digital Association (MDA). Awesome is an understatement. A fresh crowd, beautiful talented young professionals, all the movers and shakers in the digital space from Malaysia and across the region converge religiously every first Wednesday of the month to celebrate their craft, friendship and network the night away.

Last week's 12th Digital Wednesday was no different!

Held at Bar Savanh Too, Mont Kiara, it started at 6.00pm (some say 4pm) and packed in almost 200 party animals and featured speakers like Khairul Syahar (A&P Controller, Malaysia Airlines) and Word of Mouth Guru Ian McKee of Vocanic who just did their thing on stage for a brief while without disrupting the ever-flowing fun at the party.

Moderator Jordan Khoo of Eyeblaster did what he did best - try to tame the crowd and dish out lots of goodies. He succeeded whenever he loudly mentioned that more ad budgets should be spent on digital marketing.

But the theme of the night was on ADOI magazine launching its mobile platform. What started as an April Fool viral spoof announcing the impending launch of m.adoimagazine.com as a Nigerian scam realised itself when the fictitious Dr.Hamroyo Abba of Lagos came on stage to declare he was the fall guy for the genius of a great team from Amphibia Digital, TJ and Sandra, who were the creators of this campaign. ADOI Mobile is supported by Vision Interactive Broadband Services or VIBS.

Party revellers were also relieved to note that ADOI was not actually sold for RM4.2 million on April 1, but everybody now knew the gist of what the opening bid would be in case it did go under the hammer  (no pun intended). A turbanned stranger was reportedly spotted hovering around party gate-crashers figuring out who was paying for the drinks. It was later revealed with corresponding wild roars of approval that InMobi, Malaysia Airlines together with ADOI magazine were the kind sponsors of the drinks this time.

The next Digital Wednesday is on May 5, 2010.
